On February 6th, EZB Law criminal defense attorneys Andrew Elders and Jessica Newton won a major victory for their client in a three-day jury trial in Prince William County. The client, who hired EZB Law shortly after his arrest, was charged with Rape, Abduction with Intent to Defile, Burglary, and Forcible Sodomy, charges which carried several life sentences had the client been convicted. The prosecution alleged that the client had broken into his girlfriend’s apartment and attacked her while her daughter slept in the next room. But over the course of a three-day trial, Elders and Newton proved to the jury that the girlfriend had fabricated the story and had lied repeatedly under oath and to the police. The trial judge dismissed two of the counts for lack of evidence before sending the case to the jury. The jury then found the client not guilty after deliberating for only a few hours.
The result in this case does not predict future results because each case is different. But this case underscores the importance of hiring a criminal defense attorney with substantial jury experience and the knowledge to apply that experience in a trial setting.
